    Default Canada Goose Approach

Although I look through the forum frequently, this is the 1st time I'm posting a photo. Can. goose coming in for a landing. Not the greatest subject, but I took what I could get on the 1st day of sun in a long long time here in Indiana.

    Canon 1D MkIII, 560mm (Canon 100-400 @ 400m with 1.4x), ISO 800, 1/1000s, f/9, Manual, hand held.

    Thanks for looking :)

Hi Mark - a big warm welcome to the BPH family - nice first post.
I am on a unbalanced screen at the moment - whites look like they could be a little hot in places - lets see what others say.
Techs look solid - no mention of any EV??
You have a good HA and eye contact - like the landing pose - a little tight in the frame maybe?
    looking forward to seeing more.

Hi Mark Big Warm Welcome !!!

Good hanging pose and sharp !! Might move the bird slightly in frame (down).. still leaving a little more room down than top. Could decrease saturation in sky just a bit and to be super critical would like seeing the wing fully open.

A very good image and do like the subject, great birds !!! Looking forward to many more !!

    Welcome to BPN, Mark !!

I agree with the hot spots. Tuning them down should improve the image. Good advice from Al. Good show and thank you for sharing !

    Hi Mark,
A big warm welcome to the BPN family,
I agree on the whites being a tad warm, would give this fellow more room at the top...looking forward to your next one...

    Mark,

This is my favorite species and this is a nice first post. Looks like you were shooting in manual mode and I assume the blinkies were turned on. In that case, read the LCD & histogram and make adjustments. One adjustment here was a faster shutter to save the whites from blowing.

The overall tech settings are good, just when shooting BIF need to watch the background it will affect the meter, smart using manual as opposed to Av which can freak out with significant BG changes.

Light might be harsh (maybe not) best to shoot in the morning & evening soft light. Looking forward to more.
