I actually was trying to get some Purple Martin in flight shots :o

Another old one. Taken last May with a D300 and the 200-400 handheld late afternoon.

Comments welcome and thank you for looking !

Well to me it's quite impressive to get a starling in flight at all. Well done on that! I can't get EXIF from the photograph, so maybe you could post your shutter speed?

The central placement of the bird doesn't do it for me, and if there is enough detail, it might be nice a little bigger in the frame - but this coming from someone who's happy to get a stork in flight! I'm impressed.

    Impressive capture Desmond !!

Paul one of the problems with these little guys is getting them large in frame which normally means having the close focus engaged so the lens tracks all over !! Need to pre focus, place the AF on the bird the last minute ! Jim Neiger has one posted in birds (first page now).

Desmond on the the Canon side I use the 400 5.6 since its light, the year and a half I had Nikon did not have a lens I was comfortable with the little birds. Did the best with a 300 f 4.0 and D300. Tried Fab's 2.8 but found it a little heavy after a while but did focus like a demon !!!

Hi Desmond - impressive it is - know how fast these guys are - you must have quick reflexes - lots to like here.
    Great advice from AL :)

Pretty amazing. I never even thought of trying to catch one of these fellows in flight. Maybe a bit cropped off the bottom and left might help move the bird in the frame. Good advice above.

Actually, I thought I was shooting a purple martin :o:o

I tried to locate the original raw file and couldn't find it and so nothing to tell regarding the techs. Sorry about that.

Thanks for the comments everyone !!
