There are so many of these things at Anhinga Trail ENP that you need to photograph them !! I find them challenging for a pleasing pose and some feather detail ... but you get many chances !!

    Hmmm...

I tried l;ike heck to get a good flight shot of a black vulture last week and ended up settling with head shots.

In this image Alfred, I find not enough light / detail on the back wing feathers to make the vulture really stand out....especially as my eyes are lead to the light colored road and the fence leading front to back and then out across to the left of the image.

Also, the tail is kind of lost due to the birds angle in it's turn.

Perhaps if it were more of a vertical crop with the subject featured, my eyes would find it to be a more powerful image.

As always....just the way my eyes see it.

I think you made a very ugly bird look good. I like the fact that it's habitat is included.

    Al,

Like the way you composed the horizontal image with hint of famous trail in background.
    Very well done job.

Hi Al, I too like the habitat/trail included, and the banking pose with eye contact. To me the darks look perhaps a bit too dark, with some details lost in the tail area? You can sure tell those wings are built for soaring!

    Cheers!

IMO a lot of detail lost on the dark side and the contrast with the lighter brighter background did not help, regards

Two things make this for me: the boardwalk gives a sense of place; and the bird has excellent separation from the background. Is this the place where the birds are being discouraged? If so, the placement in the environment tells a story, too. Great composition.

Hi John Yes they have two dead birds hanging by their feet in the parking lot :(

They are getting to be a problem displacing other birds, will see what happens !
