Went for a hike Wednesday morning. I thought I was going to come home empty handed. Had spotted an inmature BE setting on top of a dead tree, but a fisherman coming along the river spooke it before I clould get a shot. I wasn't seeing the usual abundance of woodpeckers. It was just being one of those mornings. On the way back to the parking area I ran across a few semi-cooperative Eastern Bluebirds.
Canon 40D, Bigma @ 500mm, ISO 800, f/8.0, 1/250, CF tripod, sidemount gimbal. Post included RAW conversion in CS3, Unsharpmask and Smart Sharpen on bird, Despeckle and Reduce Noise on background. Removal of one distracting branch via Clone tool.

Exposure wise the image is a bit over, tried recouping the detail in the whites but there is no info particularly chest and some of the perch. Check histogram for blinkies to make sure !!!
Not much you could have done but less of a steep angle would have helped !!
Hi Bob - agree with AL'S comments - personally I always try and push my whites as far to the right as possible - But no to the point of having any blinkies. Once the whites are toast - not a lot you can do really.
Angle is a tad steep but not much you can do.

Nice pose, and I like the colors of the BG. Might consider decreasing the brightness overall just a bit. It won't resolve the loss of detail in blown whites, but might reduce the impact.
Hi Bob,
I like this little guy, you have a good head angle and good eye contact...agree on the exposure techs. Looking forward to your next one...
