Composition is about feel. I would level the weed with the side of the frame, makes it easier on the eyes IMO. Also, there seems to be some dirt on right side angle as well.

I like the HA, eye and the pose is nice. Background goes well with the image, try to get shutter up if possible and capture fine detail in head area - thanks for sharing.

I attempted to use the rule of thirds by placing the bird/perch to the right and leaving open space in the direction the bird was facing. This is a dead horse weed stem in the edge of the woods so it was leaning a bit and the debris on one branch is something natural. I probably could have pushed the ISO a little more to get more shutter speed but it was overcast and snowing. I set 1/400 sec because it usually is enough to get sharp images of perched birds with 420mm focal length and a tripod.

I think ISO is fine maybe open aperture, flash or capture angle could help speed. IMO the weed angle distracts from the image, let's see what others say - that's just me.

Thanks for the input, I sincerely appreciate it.....cropping is tricky and although there are guidlines it's a little subjective too. It's nice to have real experts take the time to look and reply with helpful comments.
