Very cool, Al! I really like the composition, and detail throughout. Good work catching him at the height of action!

Ok, so what is your secret to making an Anhinga yawn like this? :) Very cool! I think it's very odd how many Anhinga have the breeding plumes in their feathers, but no color in the lores and skin around their eyes. Lovely background and action here Alfred...along with great DOF to get everything important in focus.

Love the accurate exposure, the sharpness, the bokeh and of course the wide open beak. They look quite different from our aussie specie. Does this one have breeding plumage ?

Ditto above, unique expression and I enjoy portrait shots very much. We have similiar birds over/down across (depends where you live I guess), here in Oz, often referred to as Snake Birds due to the neck.

What kind of joke did you tell him to get this great looking pose?
    Well done!

Not your average 'bird portrait' - I really believe you've captured some personality and the technical aspects seem to be spot on. Great post!

Not quite It does have the brownish feathers but needs the brilliant blue eye !!! Most of those are busy nesting etc to pose for us :)

Cool pose, details and BG. Because no one else mentioned it, out of curiosity I had a look at the histogram to make sure it's not my monitor. Some of the blacks look blocked here. Long introduction for a small observation. :)
