Default Are You Happy With Your Mark 4?

Now that many of us have received the Canon 1D Mark 4 and have had a chance to use it are you happy with it. I must admit I am thrilled. To me it produces outstanding image files and auto focuses better than the Mark 2 it has replaced. My 7D also has excellent AF. However the Mark 4 is still faster and more consistent using the 500 F4. Yes, I have micro adjusted with both bodies.

There have been threads all around the Internet reporting mostly positive experiences. However, there have been some who are not as happy. So, for those who actually use the new camera what is your experience? I have narrowed this poll to the AF only as it is this aspect that gets the most press.

Thanks for participating. Please, only those who have actually used the camera should vote.

it is my best Canon body I've used. And all images I made were superb. The only problem I had was a serious front focus on my 600 mm lens.

Besides that's it's an awesome camera.

I am very happy with the IQ of the body. I am having a FF issue which I need to deal with but keepers are super. A microadj or a canon calibration should solve it.

I thought the noise control would be a bit better.. For us, bird photogs I really see it as equal to the MKIII as I doubt I would shoot over ISO1600.

For sports the higher ISOs will be a great help.

Coming from a 10D, 40D, 5D & 5D2 I am vastly amazed by the 1D4 in the 6 hours it has been in my hands.

I just need to get my head around some of the 1-series specific improvements. :)

I am still testing the autofocus of the Mark IV and customising to my shooting style. However, I can tell you that it is working in India in the heat (not much but around 32-33 degrees centigrade). So those of you whose Mark IIIs were not working in the heat can rest assured. :D

I am happy too, although will not be able to test AI Servo Af until the weekend (on eagles). It's my first pro body so I have to be impressed overall, right! I have done some high ISO testing and am frankly blown away how good it is. BTW I am of the opinion that to test the noise you need to process as usual and see what you get. Processing for noise is easy and a no-brainer so why not do it? So I have done this with DPP/Ps with high-ISO NR set to default Standard, and the results are excellent all the way up to 3200 and 6400. I predict even 12800 will be useable for nature photography. She's built like a brick too.

The only negative is two stubborn small spots on the sensor which had to come out of the factory.

    I'll vote after the weekend.

I have just had my Mark 4 for 2 weeks and I love it. I'm still selecting the best autofocus settings for my style and subject matter (african wildlife). Compared to other Canon's that I have owned, this is the best one by far. As a wildlife camera I don't think it could get any better.

    Cheers-Chuck
