I took this shot in the Kalahari last year. Not always having the long-range glass to get these little birdies full in the frame, I often try to give the shot some space and context so I won't have to crop the jeepers out of the image.
The environment colours and open spaces are one of the things that makes the Kalahari such a great photographic destination...

Morkel well done on the exposure, even on the driedoring he is sitting on. Overall rendition very nice. I would slightly crop all round, not necessarily proportionally. a bit more 1/5 than 1/3 in the frame, but this is personal taste!
Hi Morkel, Nice image. I like the warm feel of the image. I also like the bird being small in frame and the inclusion of the vegetation as this provides me with a sense of scale and habitat. As presented there is too much space behind the bird for my personal taste. I tried several different crops The one I like best was taking some off behind the bird and a little off the top to more the bird higher in frame. I would leave the bottom alone. I am undecided if I would remove any for the right edge (our right). Just something to think about. If this were mine I would remove the twig that mergers into the body of the bird. My only other comment is that I wish for a better view of the wings. Thanks for sharing.
Nice image Morkie. Love the colors as you said, what a place. I'd still crop a little more from top. Other than that the wings are just a little bit awkward, as if it was startled. Regardless, well done bro, probably a tiny little bird that is afraid of its own shadow too.
