    Canon 1d mk2, Canon 300mm f2.8 lens, ISO 200, 1/250, f4.5, aperture priority.

I am interested in producing some images in black and white, this gyrfalcon (captive) is my first attempt at black & white, any advice or comments would be very welcome.

    Thank you

It's a different way to look at a bird on this way. I don't prefer a bird in black and white but thats a way of tast I think.
I think that the picture with a bite more contrast looking better and gets a bite more bite by doing that ( I think :)

I like the pose of the bird, the wings, and everything looks sharp. But I agree with the above comment - the original photo doesn't have enough of a range of white thru grays to black to be a striking black&white photo.

I like the BW here, it is a perfect bird for that. Is it wild bird or captive?
Agree with Willem about more contrast but also more sharpening I think
is due. The problem however here IMO is the head angle, correct me if I'm wrong,
but I think the beak in fact is slightly OOF, just a slight head turn would make it stronger.
I would also try to work on the eye a bit, that might make the image stronger too.

Great bird and nice image in all.
    Cheers,

Very striking image of this beautiful raptor. I like the b/w image, would like to see the color version also. I went a little farther than Ilija took it. You should be able to do better from the original capture than this. See what you think. TFS

The one of Todd is stronger than the one of topic starter. But I'm still not a fan of b/w naturpictures I so sorry.

I like this image a lot and the idea of B&W conversion. Very good suggestions above and I would add that some additional room at the bottom would meke this one even better
