This Trumpeter Swan was photographed on a foggy morning at a northern Minnesota wintering site. 40D, 300 f/4 + 1.4X, 1/250, f/5.6, ISO 400, fill flash with Better Beamer at -1 2/3. I removed the flash-generated catchlight and selectively lightened the eye. NR applied to the background. Comments are welcome.

Sharpness, exposure and BG look very good and the droplets add to it. I only wish there were a bit head turn toward you.

What a treat to be so close to one. Great image and agree on the head turn, more noticeable on the lores and frontal part of the eye.

Love this image Steve, excellent detail in the white feathers and black beak. Water drops sure help out the mood, could only wish for a catchlight !! Big Congrats !!!

Gorgeous portrait with excellent exposure and detail. Agree about the head turn but really love how close you were able to get and the wonderful sharpness. thanks for sharing.

You did a great job getting all the details out of this capture, and it's not easy with all the white and black. It looks as though the light was working in your favor. I do agree that the head turned a bit more toward you would have been over the top, but we dont' always get what we yearn for.

Good for you Steve to get so nice and close. Lost of details in whites and blacks. Dave

More head turn yes, but I absolutely love the clarity and details. Well done! :)
