Default Anyone NOT using PhotoShop? Using Aperture and Nik - Wasting My Time?

I use Aperture for my raw conversions and post processing as well as Nik plug-ins for sharpening, noise and some light and color work. I'm just learning to use the more advanced plug-ins as, frankly, my previous shooting events (drag racing and air shows) generally did not require the level of work that birding seems to!! So, a couple of questions if you don't mind!

    One:
Does anyone use Nik software? And does it have the capability of doing the majority of what I would need in birding image correction and enhancements?

    Two:
Should I just cut my losses, bite the bullet and buy/learn PhotoShop?

The one thing I do know is that I don't have the time to invest learning the details ( I mean really learning) of both software packages / methods. Suggestions and experience welcomed!

Between NX2 and the niksoftware plug ins in CS3 and NX2 95% of my post processing is done. I do print out of CS3. I find the niksoftware plug ins wonderful! I have their Define, Nik sharperner, Color Efex, Silver Efex and Vivenza 2.

I too use Aperture for raw conversion and archiving.
I do use the Nik software now for most of my work.
I am appreciating the speed up of my workflow.
I still have to use Photoshop for any serious editing such as Quick Mask.
I would say you should have it all-look at the software as a set of tools. Use what works for you.
Love to hear how you are using Aperture and Nik plug ins.

I don't have the cash right now for PhotoShop so I'm taking the time to dig into the Nik plug-ins. I'm looking to see if I can use the control points to literally "mask off" a bird or a background for selective adjustments.

Hey Mark, I am not familiar with Aperture but did you consider PS Elements? There are free plug-ins, and actions that let you more closely mimic CS type activities. IMO, it helps your PP skills to "manually" get a workflow going in PS before using the more advanced plug-ins.

Mark PS should be your primary program, all others work in support... it is a big deal !!

    Thanks Nick!
Does Elements work pretty much the same functionality wise as CS4 (so if when I switch no relearning)? From a photogs standpoint, what would I be missing if I went will Elements?

    Thanks Al!
Yea, I've been figuring as much! I just ordered Artie's Digital Basics last night!

Gimp is a free alternative to PhotoShop and those who use it really seem to love it.
