I was at Ding Darling this week and there were more tourists than birds so
I scouted around for something to shoot and found a tree that the frost
had working on pretty good. Nice colors, something we don't see here that often.
I'm not crazy about that dead branch in the left corner but I didn't see an easy
way to crop it or clone it out so I left it.

Hi Gary,Nice color and exposure. A few things...It would be beneficial for us in critiquing if you post your shooting specs along with your image. I don't consider this a landscape image but more of a macro or closeup image.
I feel the image would be improved without the blurred yellow leaves in the backround and I would crop about 1/3 of the backround off the right....
Hey Gary,
I'd imagine rare indeed for your neck of the woods! I agree with Dave's recommendations and will add that more seperation in the main focal leaves would go a long way to improving this compositionally. I like that you looked for other interests during low action times......keep up the thinking process.
One thing to try in such instances is to thown something on the ground in the BG. I use a lightweight sheet. Similar thing the hummingbird photographers do.
