I was set up to photograph dotterels when this Purple Swamphen passed by at close range.
I think I'll get past the HAP with this image but I may not be so lucky with the BCB (bill cleaning brigade).;)
This is full frame and cropping suggestions are very welcome (along with any other comments, of course).

Gosh, that's one dirty bill. :) Love the soft graduating BG Leo and there is tons of detail on the hen's plumage. Wonderfully presented.

Beautiful detail in the head and eye. I think this would be even better as a vert. portrait. BG is killer.

Great detail and color. Love the BG. Amazing to be able to get one this close to make this a full-frame shot. I could also see it as a vert portrait since the detail falls off on the body.

Leo, excellent exposure and detail, and I feel the HA is just fine. IMHO, I wouldnt touch the bill. Lovely pastel BG.

Hi Leo, I think you've made a great image here. If it were mine, I'd make a few adjustments. I tighten the crop a little to improve the composition, to remove your subject from center. Your subject's face seems somewhat dark, and I think that can take away from the life of the image, so using a Levels Mask I would lighten just his face. I'd also remove the small white flakes from his back, and the one that is dead center on his chest. I took the time to make these adjustments in the form of a repost. I really like the background.

Liked Blake's crop a lot. vertical will look good too. Very fine job with the exposure. Exquisite feather details. You should pat yourself on the back for this one.

Wonderful detail and background Leo - like the slightly tighter crop for a portrait.

    cheers

A proud bird and killer BG, love the eye and colors in this image, it's a pity about the dirty beak but it doesn't bother me much.
