Default Owl Tree - Merritt Island NWR

A few months ago, I posted an image from the Owl Tree at MINWR. A few people asked if I had an image of the full tree at that time. I advised that I did not but would shoot it when we went back. Due to the holidays, we did not get back until this past week. Attached is a photo of the Owl Tree and the closeup in the insert. I think you can find the owl in the tree, but if not, it is just below the lower branches near the insert location.

FYI, should you want to find it, it is on the left side of the Black Point Wildlife Drive (one way drive through the Refuge) about 0.1-0.2 miles before the large eagles nest, which has a series of 4 or 5 locating scopes, on the right side of the road.

Do you know why they cut all those branches?

I remember this tree. Wish I had one in Oz. I'd be praying for the owls daily. :)

No, Axel, except that it looks like it has seen better days. Possibly one of the 5 hurricanes of a few years ago did damage that needed to be removed. They don't cut down too many trees in the reserve, so might have been a hazzard situation. Then someone got handy with the saw and saw an owl in the trunk that wanted to come out. :D

This week I almost missed it, though I was looking for it. Birds were either sleeping or distant, so decided to do some landscape shooting and was looking for interesting trees and texture. This definately was interesting. :D

I remember that image, too! Neat to see the tree it came from. Amazing what you can see when you keep your eyes - and mind - open!
