Was practicing flight shots. at Ridgfield NWR Dec 26th, the swans didn't start flying until 10:30 am.
D2Xs 80-400mm vr at 400mm, hand held, iso 400 1/2000 sec at f/7.1 matrix metering.
I like this image the best of the series.
thanks for looking, all C/C's welcome

    Very nice capture.
The image appears to be well captured with good exposure for these white birds and sharp focus.
I would have placed the swan slightly higher in the composition.
Considering the subject matter, it is difficult to critique this image posted at this size. It would have been better if you had posted a version of the image closer to the 1024x800 limit.

Good job on getting both in focus, you even manage to get one with wing up and another with wing down position. Nice exposure consider it's pretty late in the morning, wish these swan would take flight sooner so you wouldn't have a harsh shadow on the leg.

Craig - Nice capture. I love the wing up, wing down pair. Looks like it might be a pretty large crop with some loss of detail - you don't say how much you cropped - and posting at 1024 width might show better. To split hairs, I agree that they might have been placed just a tad higher, and possibly trim a bit off the right and add a bit to the left. All in all, though, a nice image given the harsh light. Glad someone else is trying BIF shots with the 80-400.

I like both wing positions and overall feel !! As presented would crop more since there is lots of negative space top and bottom, just depends how much of a crop it is already !! ... good base exposure !!!

AGREE with all of the above - just wish the eyes were a little more visible.
    Exposure looks good.

    Very nice capture Craig,
You have good details and good color rendition...I would crop this into a pano, thus eliminating the negative space...looking forward to your next one...
