I photographed this Heron at the Venice Rookery this past weekend with my Canon 1dMK IV at sunrise. ISO 400, f/4.0, 1/640 sec, EF500mm f/4.0L IS USM, Evaluative Metering, Auto Exposure, Auto WB, No Flash. This image was cropped.
I like the light on the heron. The front of the bird seems to have good details, too. One thing I find it kind of strange though is the white background. Somehow it seems to me doesn't go very well with the warm morning light on the heron. I mean, it looks too white. Perhaps a tad warmer would be better ? Interesting pose. You may also consider apply some more sharpening to the wings, too.
I like the vertical composition and capture Mr. Waas. I like that raised wing and direct dead on head angle. The high-key doesn't bother me, its different and refreshing...:D;) Keep then coming Sir.
Very unique pose, the straight neck and wing position give me a morning stretch feeling. I like the environment at the bottom and how both feet are shown through the leaves. Just wish a little separation between the leaf and the bird lower body.
