    Default Boreal Owl

I photographed this owl on Amherst Island on Saturday. We had a fifteen minutes time window when it was in the open with a vole captured by him/her. I might post the front view next time that shows the vole still intanct.

Beautiful image Karl. I love the eye contact, the complimentary BG and the fact that the bird is in the open.

I've seen another image of this bird with the vole by a local photographer from here so you must have been standing beside him at the time. ;)

I'm still hoping to add this species to my owl collection sometime.

Karl, brilliant image with good eye contact. However, to me I find it a little too tight. If it was mine I would have cropped less (sorry, I am suggesting you did crop this image?) and allowed more space all around.

Karl this is soooo nice. I love the intense eyes and the over the shoulder look. For me I like the little tighter crop as it makes the bird and that nifty perch be my sole focus. I think you have just the right amount of room around the bird. Congrats on getting a great opportunity and making the most of it.

Surprisingly adequate d-o-f for wide open and this does not look like much of a crop. I like the over the shoulder treatment but wish that the bird were looking right down the lens barrel (as you likely do to). Can't wait to see the front view.

I like the simple bg and the pose. Great details as well. Nicely done.

Beautiful. Loved the DOF in this. I also like how you have treated it...not lightening it. The overcast feel adds a lot IMO. goes well with the species.

Such a sweet image of this little beauty...love his eyes. I'd clean up the very top edge a bit. I also like the very muted color pallette as that's where he lives.

Gorgeous Karl. Must get out there again - have not seen one in such an open setting.
