Although the late morning light is a bit harsh in this, I love driving down the coast occasionally to visit my favourite pair of Eastern Ospreys. They are very inquisitive of your arrival and provide awesome close up moments as they fly over to check you out.
While I got many good shots from my last visit, this one stood out to me because of the 'moment in time' it portrayed as the bird lost speed to pull up in time to land on the solitary branch.
Cropped slightly for composition. Canon 40D, 400/5.6, ISO 400, f/5.6, 1/3200th (could have bumped the f stop a bit) :(
Superb timing, excellent detail, I think I would have cropped a little, say about half way along the 45 degree part of the perch, this would help reduce the large expanse of blue and the bird would have been just a tad larger.
Excellent timing as stated above. How much was your post cropped? If it were mine I would have allowed a touch more room on the right and reduced it on the left.
I agree with you on the harsh light, and I also agree on the "moment in time" aspect of the image. A better HA would have great - but can't always have everything :-) I don't see any issue with the aperture used in this instance.
love the pose and composition. light looks decent enough, and aperture not an issue as mentioned. would have loved to see more detail on the back wing feathers.
Looks like he's about to be skewered. Birds are simply amazing. Love the pose. The blacks in the back of the wings look a bit blocked up. Don't know if there's any detail there or not.
