    can anyone comment on the benefits of the new version mongoose b.
    any advantage iver the 3 a?

    The locking threads and composite plugs are larger on the 3.5b version. The makers will upgrade the original for free, although you need to cover transporation costs.

    Stuart,

    I had bought the 3.5a unit and needed to send it in for a repair.

    It came back upgraded and was much nicer to use.

    I use it with a 50D and 500mm f/4 and have had no problems since.

    The bigest difference is in the smoothness of movement with alittle tension applied.
