Hello Everybody,
Took this image in my UNI campus. It was a damp and dark morning:(. Had to bump up the ISO to 800 to avoid shaky images. I wanted to know what one can do to increase the SS just a wee bit more without bumping up the ISO.
Details:
Nikon D40x, 300f4,1.7x TC, @ 500mm, f6.7, 1/160s, ISO 800, Handheld.
all C&C are welcome and much appreciated.
regards,
Kaustubh.
Hi Kaustubh: I like this beautiful bird -- and perch. I would like to see a bit more cropped from the top . . . and the bird does look a bit soft on my monitor.
Hi Kaustubh About all you can do to increase shutter speed without raising the ISO is going to a faster lens or close in then only use the 1.4 X !!!
Would lighten the face area just a bit !! .... and use a tripod !!!!! You will be surprised how slow a shutter speed you can have and still make a sharp image !!! ... one other thing you can do is apply some Gaussian blur to the bg for smoothing !!
hI - Love Kingfishers and that looks like a gorgeous bird.
Agree with AL'S comments - a tripod will be of great help and the least expensive option.
I can get sharp images down to about 1/30th on a tripod - takes a lot of practice and good long lens technique.
Would lighten the eye a tad and crop some from the top.
Looking forward to seeing more :)
Agree with AL's comments when HH need fast shutter (as you know) and good technique/practice. I hit shutter and hope I get a good one in the batch, often trying to move around getting best light. Of course using flash can help and Servo mode IMO. Other than that tripod and long-lens technique is helpful. See Ed Forum for nice thread on this topic - thanks for sharing.

Hi Kaustubh,
A beautiful image and capture...agree with the comments above. I would crop 1/4 from the top of the frame to eliminate the negative space...
