    Default Broken dreams?

Well, let's hope not. This is an X-ray of a Rainbow Lorikeet juvenile's right wing. As you can see her ulna is snapped and luckily the radius keeps it in a splint. If it were the humerus (single bone) it would mean certain euthanasia.

We are getting her reexamined by X-ray this coming Saturday, but she is still a little ill with pneumonia as she aspired some liquid she regurgitated four weeks ago under anaesthesia. Antibiotics have been and will continue to be administered.

I must take a picture of this little beauty. She really grew on us and she still has not learned to bite!!! :D :D :D

Thanks for looking. She has a good chance apparently. I'm taking her for one more shot of antibiotic Thursday morning, then final X-ray on Saturday. If she is unreleasable, we will keep her as our pet. :) She will not be PTS.

    Hi Neil,
Not likely, it was still not at the age to be able to fly. Could have just fallen from the nest hollow. :(

    Ahhh, okay.

I used to work with a vet in Brisbane many years ago, and we saw a lot of raptors and Tawny Frogmouths that had been either hit by cars or shot.

Great to know she's going to be okay one way or the other. Keep up the great work.

    UPDATE:

I am very sad to say that this little girl lost her battle with respiratory complications after a long battle with pneumonia. Had her checked only on Saturday morning and the prognosis was pretty promising with the wing. She developed breathing difficulties late Saturday night and she was gone in the morning. A sad day as she really grew upon us. :(
