As promised...here is the HDR+B&W version. I like this one more.

Hey Mork, I like the exposure in this, and would maybe darken the sky a tad more. If I had to choose, I would go with your colour version.

These 'Big old units' really lend themselves to B/W imagery very well and I much prefer this to the OP.

Morkel, it looks like there is a hint of (magenta?) in the image, possibly because it's an RGB file. If converted to 'Greyscale' does it look more B/W? I have found this when printing B/W, the file appears more natural as a GS file, but again, it's a personal view. :)

Hi Morkel. Had a look at both and they are both wonderful images but my vote also goes for the colour version. Love the detail, comp and surroundings in both and the colour adds in the other version.:)

As I said before, I love the bright green... my vote for the color version. Like this one too though, the B&W draws attention to the texture.

Hi Morkel no denying your PS and HDR skills.. top notch . I prefer the colour version has more impact. I agree with steves observation on the conversion.

with regard to the positioning yourself for the shot we all know how difficult it is.. but this would have been over the top if you had managed to capture the elephant between the two big trees .. I am sure you have noted this yourself,

    Morkel,
I agree with Steve. I would prefer this version than the colour.

Morkel, great image, both options- I cannot decide between them. Nice big guy, btw. Think I agree with Stu on a darker sky. How about the ele in colour & the rest B&W?:)

It's the color version that grabs me more Morkel.

thank you very much for the kind and constructive comments everyone!!

here is a version in grayscale format...let's see if it removes the cast that some have noticed. :)

Peter - I did wish to get it between the trees, but @ 65mm and closing this guy was forcing me quite unsubtly to put my foot on the gas...this shot was actually taken while starting to pull away and get to a safe distance

Bit late but have not been able to log on for a few days. I prefer the colour version but still believe the coliurs are too vivid!

Nice catch! I wish you were a bit to your left to avoid him merging with the tree behind.
I'd like to see the new version too :)
