    Default Another passion of mine.

SportsFishing is another passion I love doing when I'm not busy photographing.
Here is a 108cm, 23kgs (51lbs) Barramundi and a new personal best for me!
Being an ethical fishermen, I always practice catch & release whenever possible.;)
Caught at Lake Monduran, Nth QLD. April 2009

    Cheers
    Marc

Nice catch ! Not familiar with the fish but it looks like he has scales like a tarpon and the mouth of a snook.

Is that a growth / parasite in front of his eye ?

    Thanks Mike & Tom
The Barramundi (Barra) is a close relative of the Nile Perch, and I guess the Tarpon is similar but still quite different species.

Gus, not as long as one might think, only around 7 mins. The less time the better for the fish's sake, less stress makes for a healthy release.;)

Ah, would have been even better barbecued though! Barra are my fave fish. Not that I buy fish much as they are too expensive. Try 40 bucks for a kilo of flathead fillets. And that's a lousy FLATHEAD mate!

    Nice catch BTW. :)

    :D:D
    Thanks Akos

Actually this Barra being caught in freshwater cannot compare (in flavour) to it's saltwater counterparts.;)
And also just where are you shopping at for flathead at that price?? Double Pay perhaps?:p:p
Last time I looked it was around $16 per kg, have they gone up that much in the last 12 months??
I do occasionally bring home a few fillets when I'm out on the water.:D

Thanks for that re: flavor. I did not even know that. You learn something new every day.
Try Penrith Westfield two Sundays ago. I was blown away. That's why I buy fish occasionally only. The choice was not that great really and the cheap crap is probably farmed in Asia or imported from there. :)

Congratulations Marc that is some beauty. I can just imagine the thrill you had bringing him in. Was he a fighter or more like the halibut ?? Many thanks for sharing.

Nice fish and TFS. I used to fish for striped bass off the jetties in NYC. My best was a 33lb 4 oz. fish on 10 pound test line at 1am in the morning off of a rock jetty. I quit after I caught that one.
