Default white balance in post processing

I was shooting in this gazebo in the center of town but couldn't decide on the proper white balance. Properly shooting the snow produced lights that were much to orange, properly shooting the lights produced blue tinted snow. I took the two shots attached here, one correct shot for each light source, and was wondering if there is an easy way to combine the images. I use Photoshop Elements for all my post-processing. Thanks for your time.

I don't know if it will work but you could try combining them with an HDR program such as Photomatix.

Here's my attempt at combining the two images using Photomatix. I set the exp difference at 2 stops and then played with the sliders in the tone mapping mode. I don't know what you are after but this seems to have produced a nice image. You really have alot of control of the output with this program.

Hi Eric, Looks like Dan already told you about photmatrix. Sometimes you can add a photo filter in Photoshop to a layer mask and that works. You could also combine the images in photoshop trying some of the different blend modes and using a layer mask there. You could also try a new layer w/ a color at a low opacity and then using it as an overlay. Vivesa is another program that might help. It allows you to select different areas within the scene to add color. You can download a free trial. Did you shoot any w/ AWB? Just curious as to the outcome.
It's a beautiful scene and I love the snow and the lit up gazebo.

I've yet to try any of the programs mentioned, but I sure like the repost that Dave has done- it adds real punch to a very pleasing scene.

Good advice from Dan and Denise..I tried to rework your images, using merge to HDR.....this is result below....Blended image was brightened, lowered saturation of magenta and red to get even light...not sure if this is what you were trying for...

Dan and Paul, Thanks for showing me what can be accomplished using HDR. I just bought Photomatix 2 weeks ago so I'll take a stab at it using tonemapping like Dan suggested. If my result looks like something in between both of your images I'll be pleased. Thanks so much for taking the time to help me out.

Denise, I don't think I kept one with AWB. I took these shots over a year ago; I always wanted to work with them but just didn't know how. If my memory serves me correctly, AWB looked very much like the first image (the one with the very orange lights). I only have Photoshop Elements so I don't think I have the ability to use layer masks.

    Thanks again to all.
