This bear seems to be daring anyone to take his fish away from him. You can see it in his eyes.

Photo was taken at Lake Clark National Park in Alaska in one of the many streams that flow into the ocean. Time was mid-summer.

Canon 40D, Canon 500mm f/4 lens with 1.4 converter, f/7.1, 1/800, ISO 400. Some cropping in PS, with minor corrections in levels and saturation. Selective sharpening.

The lighting, pose and the eye contact in both predator & prey really enhances. Well done Louis.

    Hi Louis

hope you do not mind that i reposted your image,

i did a slight ccw rotation , the crop is alittle tight as had to rotate inside your crop, this will not be so when you rotate uncropped version..
did a linear contrast in curves, adj red, white, black in selective colour, 3 rounds of smart sharpening.. its difficult to adjust correctly an already edited image but its kind of what i wanted it to look like..

again hope you do not mind me editing your image...

Appreciate all the comments. Sure helps me look at an image a different way and was one of the reason I joined BPN.

Hi Louis Excellent comments and good repost !!

Can add with any image with surf behind would suggest taking multiples to get the best bg, don't like seeing the white going through his head, would also like some extra room around the animal !! Do like the image a lot and the look on his face and how well the fish stands is just great !!!

Very fine image, agree on ccw rotation. For my taste somewhere between the op and Peters repost for contrast. Al makes a good point re: wave running through head, lower angle maybe? TFS

I like the walking pose, and him showing off his catch adds to the image. The BG doesnt bother me, and I like Peter's repost.

Peter's repost is a great example of what is possible, but you have to have the image in the first place!
