This one year old cub and its mom were digging for clams at the beach. It looks like the cub needed some assurance from its mom that everything was ok. Photo taken at Lake Clark National Park in Alaska. Bears were wet and a little dirty from digging in the sand.

Canon 40D, 500mm f/4 Canon lens, f/5.6, 1/640 , ISO 400. Image cropped some, levels and sharpening in PS.

    Hi Louis

The images have potential, but sadly for me, they are just soft. Not sure what is happening? I am sure Alfred or someone can point you in the right direction of past threads to help you. Then, IMHO you will have some really good shots. I would also use the 'ruler' in PS to straighten the horizon too.;)

    love the interaction between them

agreed on the sharpening, also seems like quite a bit of noise in the BG for iso 400, maybe try to do a separate layer for the bears and just do the sharpening on them

are you resizing the picture to the posted size before you sharpen it? I have a bad habit of sharpening and then resizing the file to 1024 and making it look soft

Hi Louis Here is one thread on sharpening that will cover all the bases !!! http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...ad.php?t=18534

Agree with suggestions and can also suggest making it a vertical to highlight the expressions !!!
