It's great to be warm in San Diego. This California Brown Pelican was photographed with the Canon 800mm f/5.6L IS lens, the 1.4X II TC, and the Canon EOS-1D Mark IV. Evaluative metering +1 1/3 stop: 1/160 sec. at f/13.

Don't be shy; all comments welcome.

I am not the guy that usually goes "wow.. ahhh" easily, but I have to say that I have loved this shot, it is very powerfull, and the level of detail, light, and colors are IMO amazing. Big congratas Artie! Wow! :D

Beautiful. So I presume conditions are favorable for photographers at La Jolla this year?

A very nice shot Artie, I love the straight on stare and detail captured. The comp is working as well, for some reason I keep looking back to the red pouch though which takes away my attention from the stare......As such I am wondering if a more symmetric shot with no pouch showing would be better. Thanks for showing!

Well done Maestro! I like the intensity here. Good comp too. Centering works well. :)

Excellent image Art, I like the rule of thirds with the eyes and the stare is great, Exposure looks spot on. Ron

Artie, I find it quite amazing how you find newer compositions of subjects you have shot tons of times before. loved the crop and the details a lot. The compression created by the long focal length( what I am saying is that the beak is sloping towards the camera but it appears to be in the same plane as the eyes) makes this image very special.

Hope your head and camera cleaned up nicely. I didn't know that was a sign of good luck, but I sure hope it's true!

Great pose with good color and detail. To my eyes, the eyes could use more sharpening.

Quite excellent right now. The majority of the birds are a week or two away from prime color but I have been seeing a few more killer birds each day.

"Here's lookin at you" Nice composition. Here is where you want your subject centered.
