Landing on a partially frozen pond the other day.

Dull overcast with gray sky. D300, 300f/4 AF-S +1.4TC, handheld.

1/1600 handheld, so I wanted a fast shutter speed, but perhaps I could have gone a bit slower), ISO1000 (poor light), F6.3. Some NR applied. Had a hard time trying to get the whites right.

    Hi Richard

For these mostly white images you don't need to worry about noise all that much !!

Didn't see the compensation but seems a little over, maybe got some reflection of the ice? Some of the patches don't have any detail at all. Love the pose and particularly the strong eye contact Excellent image !!!

    Richard,

You had a real challenge here, with full white and full black in the same image, and you did really well! Some of the whites do seem a bit over, but overall I think this is a strong image. Do like the eye contact and the colors on the bill and feet which contrast with the white snow.

Hi Richard - like it - yes some of the whites do appear a tad bright - nice feel - think he might have cold feet :)
