    Default Muskrat

My first post to the Wildlife forum!

    Wallkill National Wildlife Refuge,
    Pine Island, New York

I've cloned out a few pieces of grass that were obstructing the muskrat, also cleaned up the snow in a few places, slight levels adjustment (can't go higher, blacks are maxed out at eyes). I thought about cloning out the blade of grass near its mouth, but I think it's eating while I was taking this shot. The sun was very low at this point, not sure where it was in relation to the subject.

Manual exposure, full flash via Better Beamer, 500mm f/4 IS + 1/4tc, tripod set low

    Camera: Canon EOS 7D
    Exposure: 0.005 sec (1/200)
    Aperture: f/5.6
    Focal Length: 700 mm
    Exposure Bias: 0 EV
    ISO Speed: 250

    Big Welcome Dave !!!

Nice fur detail in not an easy animal !!! Great pose and setting, can only suggest to raise your ISO for more dof. The 7D does well with noise so might as well take advantage !!!

Welcome to wildlife, good job on this little guy. Exposure and details look very good on this little puff ball. Sharp @ the eye but as Al said a little more dof would have possibly got the back of the head also.

Welcome and I love this picture of to me an unfamiliar rodent. I know the species, just have not yet seen such a nice picture of one.

Thanks Harshad, Alfred, Todd, and Callie.

Apologize for the delayed response, spent most of the past few days in the field.
