About two months ago I received a call from our vets who are not that experienced in wildlife care that they had a Brushtail Possum joey that was orphaned from a cat attack and was hurt himself. They rang the rescue call center who advised them to put the joey to sleep as it was a mere 55g and they went by the book, which says 60g or less and they are not viable. Luckily they rang me (us) for advice as they didn't have the heart to euthanize the little boy. He had no fur, eyes were still shut and he was weak. A few days of TLC by our expert in the branch had him slowly recovering. He is now nearly 300g and is ready to come to us for long term care prior to release at around 900-1000 g in weight.
He is trying to nibble my index finger here. :)
