Nice Mark and I like your frame. The BG and the treatment of the bird look good too.

Mark, Very nice Asian Theme. The black and red border look good and really add to the look. I like the BG for the bird. It's a nice treatment and I think a bit more eye detail would look nice also. Hope all is well.:)

I like this Mark! The mix of traditional looking treatment on the bird and bg and the modern look of the caligraphy is nice. I agree that a little eye detail or shine would be good. I also would like to see the "chop" not so close to the edges, but, your placement seems to fit the modern look!

Thanks all for viewing and comments. Appreciate it.

Fun to be back on this theme again. Just wish the hard freeze hadn't ruined our flowers! Had hoped to share some images, as they were coming into nice blooms. But it's been very C*O*L*D  in the Sunshine State so far this year!!

Very nice image, Mark and I agree that a bit of clean up on the eye area would be nice. I also think you might minimize (but not remove) the dark black area on the upper wing.

Mark - I love the composition and bg. It looks ancient and modern at the same time. Where are all of you
getting your calligraphy - are you painting it yourself? I'm woefully ignorant about this. I've tried painting my
own calligraphy with no success and everyone's looks so beautiful. A word from the wise would be appreciated:)

wonderful! I'd leave it as is, since most brush art I'm familiar with isn't 'exact' in details, just form and there's plenty of that here. Just the right colors and textures, really well done :)

oh and Cheryl, I found a place to get your name in Chinese here:
    http://www.chinese-tools.com/names

their 'chop generator' doesn't seem to be working, so I copied/pasted the text then took it to this site to get a seal:

    hope that helps :)

Cindy, thanks so much for the information. I'd tried googling calligraphy, etc. and didn't get much.

Thanks for viewing and comment Cheryl. Cindy gave you one alternative and acually I used yours of searching the web. That's were I found mine, maybe it was on Bing, but I just searched for a "translation" site and translated from English to Japaneese, or whatever you choose. Google has a site for translations, like their mapping site, but there are many other sources.

As far as doing my own, I tried that last time and it just took so much time, as I have to do it with a "mouse" and control is not that fine. I used a grid in PhotoElements and did it long hand trying to copy what I found in the translation sites. It works, if you have a faster means of drawing than a mouse and a grid. I like the feel of the self made text, but not the time needed to do it for our use.

Cheryl, an alternative to using Asian characters for chops and calligraphy is Asian style fonts! Try Dafont.com, you can download and install the fonts (most are free). Once you have installed the font, it will be available to you in all of your word processing and text software also. Be careful to virus scan the download before installing just in case!
