    Default Snowy Owl near Colorado Springs, CO

    Canon 40D, 100-400mm IS, AV mode, f/6.3, ISO 320, 1/1600th/s, 350mm, and -1/3 exposure comp.
    Taken on tripod with IS off. This Snowy Owl was seen first Jan 3rd but not found again until Jan 9th and seen by many people today.

    It's always great to see these guys, I only read few reports this winter about sightings around here. I like the eye contact and hope he will pick a nicer perch sometime if he stays in the area.

    Axel, today was the day it was officially found, so there were alot of people hanging out. The Snowy was on a fence post for awhile but the heat waves were brutal for photography. I plan to get out there some more again and hope for a better perch!

    Beautiful, striking bird. nice capture with good exposure. As mentioned a better perch would improve the shot.

    Hi - light angle is my main issue here - some S/H in photoshop will lighten up the side of the bird that is in shadow - would also selectively sharpen the bird a tad and run some noise reduction on the BG. You could also lighten and sharpen the eyes a tad.
    Good looking bird :)
