That red color goes off the charts so easily; some curves and a very light cool filter helped to tone it down a little, will really appreciate any comments.

Thanks for looking and a happy 2010 to all,

Welcome to BPN, Ignacio! Very nice first post. I like the sharpness, angle, eye contact and particularly the background. I might put the bird a little bit further to the right in the frame, desaturate the reds a few points and try to get some details in the blacks. As presented they are blocked. Keep them coming!

I absolutely love that background, really stellar. Nice vertical comp. I agree with above points - a little desaturation on the reds and more detail in the blacks. Great first image!

Welcome, Ignacio. You've chosen a good image of a difficult bird to start with. Nice and sharp and lovely BG. Good advice above re reds and blacks. Good links here http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...ad.php?t=29869

I would be tempted to use ISO 400 as a base ISO to gain some SS or DOF depending on the subject. Looking forward to more of your pictures.

Thanks for the comments and the links. In fact the reds are significantly desaturated as it is; trying to recover detail from the black made it look a little washed-out IMO, and lose a little of the jet-black quality I like so much in these birds, but I'll try again.

Is there a glossary anywhere in the website for abbreviations? DOF I know, but SS?

    Thanks again,

Beautiful bird, dramatic colors, wonderful bg. Recrop with the subject farther to the right and that would make it even better.
