I spent some time with this marvelous adult male Elephant Seal at Moltke Harbour, South Georgia last November. There were several full beachmaster males down on the shoreline with their harems of females and pups. This guy was up above the beach and did not appear to have a harem yet. He had lots of fresh cuts to the side of his neck from sparring with other males (note the red smudge on the trunk), and one day he may be lucky and have a harem of his own.

During our visit, the winds were coming up and down violently- one minute it was blowing 50 knots and the next it was calm. This image was taken when it was blowing and you can see the ice pellets picked up from the ground in the lower part of the image.

I cropped tight, increased contrast with Levels, and sharpened. Hope you like it!

It's eyes say it all. "I need a mate". Wonderful close-up.

Great close-up John. Sharp nose to eye - just what was needed. The blowing ice pellets is icing on the cake. Well done.

Very well captured, John, the blowing ice really does it, and I love the fur detail. Lovely eye level image. Sounds like it might have been a tad uncomfortable in the wind & ice:).

Love the in your face view.Exposure and sharpness look good. Ice blowing give viewer an idea of the conditions these guys have to deal with.

Love the tight crop and the snow. This really shows a lot of personality!
