Always fun testing - Couldn't find many subjects that wanted to play with me.
Mr Gull was happy to have a test shot taken :)

    D3S
Nikon 200-400 Vr with 1.7X Converter
    F8
    1/100TH
    200 ISO
    SB900 @ 1/2
    Matrix Metering

Thought Id start off with 200 ISO and see if I could see any difference to the D3, Hard to say.
Cropped and sharpened a tad - no need for NR.
Greens could be desaturated a tad.

    :)

Good details even with a 1.7 TC ! The white just look marvellous. Like the green in the background, too.

The Nikkor 1.7 Tele Converter is not that bad Desmond. I use the 1.4 and the 1.7 all of the time. Yes you loose f/stops and a little bit of image quality, but it still passes with flying colors...:)

This is simply beautiful Mr. Peters...the quality is fantastic. Love the feather details...and no noise visible to the human eye...:D I tell you...I think you spoiled me and got me hooked line and sinker...I'm moving up to the D3s...:D;)

Hi Lance I always had great results with that lens, particularly close up !! I would crank up the ISO having that extra sweet camera :)

Great detail for a 1.7/TC - nice technique.

Great, if possible, do some at ISO 1600 and 3200; this is about as high as I want to go with ISO. I have a D3s on order, excited to work with the new technology.

I certainly will be - looking like you could happily shoot this at 3200 without any worries.
In the midst of a heatwave here at the present so no shooting for me for a few days at least.
