Very nice with the diagonal opposition Ryan. I think a square format would do this better justice. I'm thinking too that if you set the whitepoint you could get this to sparkle and bring up those whites on the bird. Sweet!

I like the overall feel to the image, but agree with Paul on both counts. I pulled your image into PS and played with it a bit as I found the shadows underneath the bird a bit much. Did some selective dodging to it, then some burning to the top part of the "knob" on the trunk. A bit of levels adjustment (to taste), and gave it a bit of saturation boost. Cropped a bit at left to make the balancing act between bird and "knob" more even. Oh, and I added a bit of yellow in Color Balance to warm it up just a tad. It would give better results with a larger ile, but you can see that a bit of TLC can really spruce up your wonderful image.
P.S. Great pose on the nuthatch, and I like the fact the bill tip has cleared beyond the body. Was this guy coming to a feeder?
You are very welcome Ryan.
P.S. You should try feeder set-ups - you'll see the opportunity numbers rise, especially during the winter months when birds gather around feeders for easy pickings.
Oh for sure, but I'm kind of different, I was a birdwatcher before I was a photographer, so half the fun for me is locating the birds and capturing them away from feeders and other attractants. To me, getting out there and not knowing what I'm going to find is really exciting.
