    Default Close-formation flying

These sandhill cranes are returning to roost at the Bosque crane pools in late afternoon. Normally, I'd don't care for images where the birds are overlapping, but I found this one interesting, in part, because of the mental gymnastics required to figure out why they aren't colliding with each other. :) 40D, 500 f/4, 1/1000, f/6.3, ISO 400. Comments are welcome.

Overlaps don't bother me here as all heads are nice and clear. Demonstrates nicely their close flying skills. I like the light and the shadow of the top bird on it's far wing.

I agree, with the heads all separate the overlap isn't a problem for me. Nice sky and lighting. I wonder if the eye detail on the top bird could be brought out just a bit.

    Hi Steve,
I like this close group flight shot. The angle of the birds looks good to me and I like how the opposite wings of the two on the end almost line up.

You did a great job with this trio, Steve. You have nice HA and sharpness on all three birds. THe light is gorgeous. There is just enough separate that it works well.

Steve, this works well for me, the sweet light and the head positions make the image! ;)

You have timed this shot perfectly. All three heads separated nicely, and it is clear they are flying at different levels. Well exposed, and all three nice and sharp.

I like this "close-formations"! Very nice light, and good sharp picture.
