Was getting in the truck to leave the refuge when this guy flew in and landed a short distance from me, so I grabbed camera and lens for quick shot without tripod :o. He then proceeded to feed and catch a vole and eat it. I was able to record the sequence but wish I had grabbed the tripod also as I would have been able to stop down a little.

Thanks for looking, comments and critiques appreciated.

I like the comp, the "coming up the hill" look, and the slight inquisitive head turn. Also like the colors and layers of the BG. The neck display (?) feathers on his right side look a tiny bit oversharpened in comparison with the rest of the smoothly detailed body feathers.

Comp works well Todd, and I like the angle of the heron. For F/2.8. you have done pretty well with the DOF. Overall, for a quick shot, well done.

hi Tod - lots to like here - Like the BG and the composition works well.
For my personal tastes - not crazy about the dark band in the BG that intersects the head.
