The American Pipit has always been an enigma bird for me. I seem to always see them in flight, and when I do see them on the ground, they always seem to be completely unapproachable. This morning, I found a few pipits in Horseshoe Cove on Sandy Hook. It took awhile to crawl up to them on my stomach, but eventually I was close enough for some photos. Against a background of white frozen sea foam, one of the pipits was cooperative.

Congrats. You got your image of a tough bird and it is sharp and well exposed. The less than ideal setting is what it is.
