beautiful pose, eye contact,backlight...I would prefer a cleaner bg
Yes, I too would prefer a cleaner background however fiddling too far in Photoshop creates an artificial looking background which I would prefer less.
I think that this is much stronger without the scraggly top and bottom frames. That plus quite a bit more sharpening.

I like the effect of the backlight on the bill. Wondering if fill flash was an option to add a little more light from this side?

Nice shot. Artie's repost is an improvement IMO.
Back lit images are tough ,and the shine-through of the beak is especially nice.
Tough to get many that are not back lit on the Skagit, but handled pretty well here. Arties repost improves this image. I should be heading up there next week to look for short ears and eagles.

I like the pose a lot, and Art's repost changes the slightly cluttered feel to a look of intersting habitat. Being backlit, I'm ok with the amount body detail, and I like the translucent beak.
Artie
As always you have hit the nail on the proverbial head and indeed made this image stronger with your suggested improvements, thank you. Forgive my tardy response I have been swamped trying to get my website up and running.
All the best
