I went to a local resrvoir today hoping to find some of our winter water fowl. All I found was ice and seagulls.
We are having an unusual cold spell.

I like the silver-blue tone of this one. Also like the curving diagonal cracks in the ice leading to the bird from the left. The edges of the feet, legs, and belly of the bird seem a little too dark/contrasty to me.

I like the light, setting, head angle and eye contact. How did you sharpen the plumage? There seems to be a lack of fine details.

    Steve, Axel,
Thank you for your comments. As I am still getting this new lens figured out; I took multiple images of this bird at different settings. I choose this one because of HA and eye contact. I also liked how the ice looked. The whites in the birds chest were probably too highlighted (ec+0.3) and I think I lost what fine detail was there when trying to tone it down. Does this sound plausible? I did do some minimal USM and sharpening as a final step.

Nice COMP and head angle but the bird is over-sharpened....
