Default What treats will this wave bring?

Shot at Galveston beach( near Houston).

This Willet was standing in the water and after every wave passed, he spent time looking for fresh treats.

40d. 400 f5.6 at f/6.3. iso 640. 1/800. exp. comp + 1 1/3. fill flash. I am not too happy with the sharpness. Guess my hands were too cold...and he was moving his head a bit. Also wishing the water in Galveston to be blue :-)

    All opinions welcome.

I'm sure the water is little more blue on a cloudless day:). The image has a somewhat misty morning look to it. Good timing with the small wave too, I find it to be in an ideal place. As posted the sharpness looks good to me...you say you are not too happy with it - did you have to be more aggressive than usual?

Daniel, yes...I did a little more sharpening than usual on the bird. At this size, I guess, it does not look too shabby. But at 100%, the image is not what I call 'sharp'....esp. the head.

There was a little mist in the air. That plus the bird and the water having the same colors and tonality make the image a bit flat. I will work more on this later and see if I can create some contrast pop.

I agree at exploring a touch more contrast. The bird stands out well against the muted/high key surroundings despite it's drab plumage and accentuating this with some contrast (possible masked to the bird alone) will make the most of it.
