Messy background but I think a nice expression, bad light almost stopped play.

Great pose and look on its face. (Looks like he was not happy to see you) Greta detail and I like the DOF.
BG is busy, but I don't think it hurts this image. Wonderful habitat shot.

Stoutgat! Lovely expression, like the hair tuffs next to his eyes. You can run a Gaussian burr on the BG, should you want to reduce its impact!

Lovely stance Ken, looks like he's playing leapfrog, great eye contact.

Expression does it for me Ken !!! Not much you could do with the bg but nailing the pose made all the difference !!!

Thanks to everyone for their comments.
I did try a higher blur on the BG but thought it made it look unnatural.
I am not sure whether he was happy to see me or not, but he certainly did a good impression of being brave!

    Ken,
I like habitat shots. But this image screams for tighter crop due to the pose. Love it.

    Sabyasachi,

Thanks that seems to be a good idea, what do you think, I know it is nearly square.

    Ken,
I like the crop better. The looks are now more prominent.

    Cheers,

Really like the tighter crop and the in your face attitude! Great eye contact as well.

    Sabyasachi,

Thanks for your good advice, cropping is one of the many skills I have to master.

Thanks I must admit the stance and facial expression is what attracted me in the first place.
