As I was photographing a Reddish Egret this Juvenile Yellow-Crowned Night Heron sauntered out of the mangroves and struck a pose.

And what a post ur pose it is too!
Welcome to the form David, very interesting first post. I've never seen a bird pose like this.
Looks almost like a night shot using a flash but you didn't mention a flash. According to the shadows the light is coming from the right and the top is dark. I might crop a bit off the top where the light drops off.
Also, interesting, if not unusual, is the use of wide dof with the bg vegetation in focus.
I like the composition with the lower left positioning of bird.
This shot is so unique I am unsure what to think about it.

Welcome to BPN Dave, and very nice forst post. I like the special pose and wing position, I would crop off from the top, wish the BG was a bit less distracting. TFS

Welcome David from a new member. This is a great place to learn.
Nice capture of a very interesting pose, looks like he wanted his picture taken.
I agree about the top crop.
Peter
Welcome from another newbie, and yes, this beggar pose is so typical for herons, but one of the better ones I have seen. I think a square crop will work well here!

So symmetrical. A really shame he did not turn his head a bit more towards you. Still nice though.
What a wondeful first post. Love the behavior and how you have included the environment. I like the head turn. I would crop a bit off of the top to give a little more accentuation to your subject.
Thanks for the comments and input. As some suggested here is a much tighter, square crop.

I feel the repost is significant improvement.
