Cape Coral Burrowing Owls

I've got to get out of this winter, bird-less new England stuff for a while so I'm heading to Sanibel for 5 days and then Vero beach for a week and a half.

While on Sanibel, I'd like to go do some burrowing owl photography. As I haven't been there for 3 years, has anything much changed?

Are there any left?

Are there any new hot spots which are good in the afternoon light?

I have Artie's SW Florida guide.

I was at Cape Coral back in Nov although only very briefly and it was a bit hit and miss. My friend stayed there for 5 days and I only spent the night with them. On the day we went looking I hardly saw any, although he had a little more luck on and off during the rest of his stay. It may or may not be of any use but I did a little write up on my Burrowing Owl experiences, including a video report which you can see here. Although most of it concentrates on Brian Piccolo Park on the East Coast where I saw and photographed loads of them!

Like Richard said. I live 6 miles from Brain Piccolo Park and I had more success photographing them at Brain Piccolo than at Cape Coral.

We had luck with a few in Cape Coral, Grace and I posted over in birds..

We tried to get to Brian Piccolo park on the east coast but it was closed on New Years day.. We also went to the Broward County Regional Park which was closed but we saw the burrows from the gates. The BG there look to be great as a green hill slopes about 50ft behind the burrows. Both Piccolo and Broward are gated parks.
