Uitstekende foto! But for the sake of all, let me repeat - superb catch Marietjie. The exposure on the plumage and the compo between the tail and leading primaries forms a pleasing curve that guides the eye along the path of flight! ISO 800?

oops, sorry, ISO 400! The noise gets high very quickly with the Mk II.

Great catch of this beautiful bird ... love the fanned tail!

Might consider putting bird a bit higher in the frame and trading some more room on
the left for a bit less on the right.

Love the fanned tail feathers, left wing, and eye contact. Wish you had better right wing position. The head seems to be a little soft, likely from motion blur; I would try a little selective sharpening. Maybe a little less canvas on the right and a little more on the left.

Blue background realy shows off the gorgeouse colours you have captured in this very different pose of Beeater in flight,Perhaps the head is just a tad soft though

lovely shot, I agree with Doug on some selective sharpening - seems like the area of sharpest focus was on the back. still one I would love to call my own.

Such a pity re the head being a bit soft - maybe 1/2500 would have made the difference -- A nice pic could have been a great picture...

Thanks for the useful comments guys, I tried some selective sharpening on the head and added canvas on the left and bottom sides, and took away on the other sides. What do you think?

Yep, repost an improvement. You did very well to freeze the BE at 2000/s. Perhaps F6.3 would have given you at least 2500/s and not much loss on DOF at 500mm. All been said still a very impressive image Marietjie.

For me it looks like there is just too much motion blur on the head to properly "fix". I do love the top view flight pose, with the complete wing down and fanned tail. The colours look great too.

Agree with Daniel regarding 'fix'. Still an image to inspire you to get out again and get a killer version! Looks like you are heading very much in the right direction. :)
