    Default Black-backed Jackal

    Hallo everyone!

I am back from a refreshing trip to the lovely Cape province of South Africa. If you've ever been there, you'll know what I'm talking about.

A very happy new year to everyone here on BPN! May this year be filled with joy, love and great photography!

This image was taken during our trip to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in September 2009. The black-backed jackal is very common throughout this park and South Africa as a whole.

I loved the light and setting here - he came down for a drink at sunset to a waterhole where we were parked.

    Techs:
    Canon 40D with 100-400mm L IS USM @ 365mm
    f5.6 @ 1/800 SS @ ISO-400
    Exp +0.3

    Happy New Year Morkel!

I like the pose. I may experiment lowering the saturation. All the best for your journey to the dark side. :D

    Cheers,

Not bad for a Canon :p
Difficult light handled well, I think contrast could be lowered a little.

Ja well no fine! What can I say, here you are, and well met, Morkel. At least, now I can see more of your nice pics. I like the saturation, and will even go a bit more. The composition is strong. If the jackal made eye-contact a great pose would have even been better.

    Hi Morkel

Fine looking Jackel I like the pose and bg, agree with decreasing contrast a bit but that image jumps out of the computer screen !! Neat !!!

... btw I did a one and one half year switch to Nikon but back with Canon :)

here is a version with slightly lower contrast and saturation. I must say I prefer my original post :)
