1D Mark IV Availability?

Now that we know they exist, does anyone have an idea when those who did not pre pay for one can purchase them.

I know the first round is sold, any news on when the 2nd, 3rd and 4th batches will be shipped?

I am hoping I can pick one up in a week or two, but chances are will be longer.

I think it's too early to tell. When the Mark III was released, I think most stores received batches on a weekly basis.

I should be receiving mine this week. I know Jim Neiger bought two; one will be delivered this week, but the other is going to be a while.

I pre ordered and got a call that if the expected allotment arrives I should get mine this week. Fingers Crossed ;)

Thanks guys, I just put my 1D III and 5D II up for sale, hopefully I will not have to wait long. When these sell I will be down to the 1Ds III until I get my hands on the IV.

I will be calling as many places as I can. I figure many are on several lists, and will be buying the first call they get, also some may have cold feet by now, not many but maybe a few.

Hi Paul,

I pre ordered from Hunt's with Gary. I don't remember the exact date, but it was just prior to the "official" announcement about the introduction. I believe it must have been around October 15 or so. I had just gotten the 7D from Hunt's. Gary was aware of my Mark 4 interest and asked if I wanted to place a deposit. I do not know "my number" but it must be early in the ordering process as after I posted that I pre ordered many here on BPN called Gary and placed their pre order as well. Of course, delivery depends on the allotment the retailers receive. If their order is cut by Canon some pre orders will have to wait until the next wave of deliveries.

I have to say that Hunt's has been fantastic. They kept informed of my needs. They called me early, to alert me about an upcoming announcement. They called me on New Year's Eve to tell me that Canon had shipped to them. Today, I got a confirmation email that my order is firm and will ship when it arrives.

Great service from people who actually care about their customers. No, I do not work for them; just a satisfied customer. :D

I called Adorama today. I placed the order on Oct. 20th. They said by the 15th I should have it.

I found some stores with short lists, they know many on their lists are on several other lists.
Depending on how many the big stores get, these lists will get small quick.

I am glad I got on a few, sure looks like this camera is a keeper.

Thanks Ed. Well checking the records it seems I placed my preorder with Hunt's on oct 26. You definitely got the jump on all of us so your in the first wave it looks like. Have fun with your new toy!!! Hopefully mine will arrive soon--Gary said I was around the 50th preorder-- if that info helps anyone.

I finally found one in stock today, 42nd St Photo has one, their website shows 5K if you pre order, if you want the one they have its $5800. I could not believe it, I even called back and asked if they were really going to do that, they said yes, its a hard camera to get right now.

I got a call from Brad Berger this evening saying that Berger Bros. would be shipping my Mark IV tomorrow (Thursday). I ordered in October. I'm a repeat customer, having purchased a couple of other major items from them when nobody else seemed to have the items. Although generally I've had really great experience with the major dealers (Hunt's, Roberts, Adorama, B&H and even Amazon), nobody has been better for me than Berger Bros.

One dealer here in Canada is reporting that only CPS members will be receiving the first few batches and possibly only if they have Olympic credentials. Amateurs may not see anything until March.

To think that if I had been quick enough Monday I could have bought one in Seattle without being on a list with deposit within hours of its announcement.

Just talked to Gary. I pre-ordered the day it was announced and am on the "first page" of four. He said they got their first shipment today - very small allocation. He has "no idea" about future shipments, etc. As always, service was great and I got the impression (and know it's true) that he'll do whatever he can to get a camera in my hands asap.

You bet!! Last week he called me while he was on vacation to tell me the cameras may arrive at his store this week. Today he called my home and the got me on my cell when he learned I was not at home. I have never had service like this from a camera retailer before. This is the way to get and keep customers.

The camera came with firmware 1.0.4 and I'm wondering if it is necessary to install 2.0 since I don't use a wireless transmitter. Any thoughts?

I'm not going to. The factory website says you don't need to upgrade if you don't use the wireless transmitter.

I'm not going to, either. If I remember correctly, the previous firmware is listed as 1.0.1. Who knows if 2.0 includes all the changes between 1.0.1 and 1.0.4 yet.
