I am back from a refreshing trip to the lovely Cape province of South Africa. If you've ever been there, you'll know what I'm talking about. Seeing as it was a family holiday it would have been inconsiderate of me to plan the entire holiday around photography ;) but I did manage to get some shooting done.
This baby whitefronted plover was running to catch up with his mum on the beach at "Dwarskersbos" (the quaint little West Coast town in which we stayed). I lost him quite a few times as he just lay down in the sand and mingled with the environment. The birds, though wild, were quite accustomed to human presence. That didn't stop the parents from trying to lead me away from their young whenever the latter were in hiding.
I like the motion blur in the legs and the fact that the eye is sharp. I was panning with the bird as I shot this.
Techs:
Canon 1000D with 100-400mm L IS USM @ 400mm
f7.1 @ 1/1000 SS @ ISO-400
This is about 60% of the original image. NO extra blurring applied.

Hey Mork, all the very best for 2010. Hope you had a great break. These little guys NEVER keep still, so you have done well here. I would still take some off the bottom.
What a cute image! I like the fact that you included a lot of BG around the bird; it looks dwarfed by its surroundings. I wonder if a pano crop would work here?
