While hiking outside of Stud Horse Point near Page Arizona, I photographed this formation at sunset with my Canon 5D Mk II. I thought about shooting this image in HDR, but I liked the soft muted background to accent the side lit foreground. What are your thoughts? ISO 800, f/32.0, 1/100 sec, EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM, 85mm, Evaluative Metering, Auto Exposure, Auto WB, No Flash. Comments Welcome

    Good morning Mr. Waas,
This is another beauty, I love the bright colors and hues along with the different contrasting textures. The framing is spot on and the wide angle perspective makes it for me. Well done Sir.

Richard - Love the colors, the opposition of the plant against the rocks, and the echoing of the browns in both the plant and the rock. My only suggestion is to clone away the thin, black stick that is to the left of the plant.
    Cheers

Thanks Gail. I sometimes look at the big picture and miss the little things......

Cool - love the colours and the composition - the inclusion of the plant in the lower left balances it nicely.
    Well done richard :)

Strong composition Richard and I like the sidelighting. The repost really brings out the best in the shot.

Richard, either you have an exceptional eye or you are seeing some amazing scenery - maybe both!! Those blues are incredible and the plant finishes out the image very well. Looks like some highlights are blown; I took the liberty of seeing if I could fix them and couldn't, but my effort with lowering highlights brought out more texture in the light area. What do you think?

I like the last re post. The OP did have hot spots. The little branch never bothered me.

Anita, I guess it's all about the monitors. There were a few blown highlights, a spot here and there, but on my newest monitor, IMac 24", where you can adjust the brightness, the texture looks great. On my Apple HD Cinema, which is not as adjustable for brightness, it looks less defined. I work all my photoshop on the IMac because it matches my printers right on where the HD Cinema comes out dark on the prints if I adjust the pictures to look good on it. It is a problem widely discussed, but the newest monitors are doing a much better job. Thanks for your input.....

Sorry, Richard. I can usually trust my desktop but think I was using my laptop when I made that post. I know my laptop sometimes displays the whites as blown & I usually don't trust it for accurate highlights. Guess I wasn't thinking. I'm glad for the feedback; will remind me to watch what I'm using before commenting. Again, my apology.
